Medvednica Nature Park is a protected area located in the northwestern part of Croatia, near the city of Zagreb. The park covers an area of over 200 square kilometers and is home to diverse flora and fauna.

The forests of Medvednica descend almost to the very center of Zagreb. In addition to peace and greenery, this mountain abounds in rich and diverse animal life and special features such as the ‘Bliznec’ forest trail for people with disabilities, the Veternica cave, the medieval Zrinski and Francuski mines, the Sljemenska chapel, 500 Horvat steps…
The highest peak of Medvednica is Sljeme, 1033 m high. There is a 169 m high radio and television tower on it. Until 2007, a cable car led to the top. There is also a ski slope on Sljemen where the Snow Queen race takes place.
The best-preserved fort in Medvednica is Medvedgrad, built in the 13th century and used to defend the Kaptol and bishop’s estates.
The second fortress is Susedgrad, also built in the 13th century. It is known for the battle that took place under its walls during the Peasants’ Revolt.
Also, near Gornja Stubica, there is the Oršić Castle, which was built in 1756 on the foundations of a fort built in the 13th century. Later, the castle was remodeled and (in 1973) turned into the Museum of Peasants’ Uprisings.
